IT-technologies, creative industries and some industries will promote the development of Kyiv

IT-technologies, creative industries, and some types of industries as smart vectors are determined by analyzing the regional context and innovative potential of the capital, conducted by the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. As the most innovative branches of the economy of the capital, they can give the city the greatest social and economic effect, and thus promote the promotion of capital producers in the domestic and world markets.

Their prospects of development, barriers, and competitive advantages were discussed during the Kyiv Smart Tracks conference, which took place in the capital several days ago.

"Currently, these directions are considered as those that will potentially determine the smart specialization of the capital and may be the basis of the new Strategy for the development of the city of Kyiv. Therefore, today, in fact, we lay the foundation for the socio-economic development of the capital for the coming years", - noted the director of the Department of Economics and Investments of the KCSA Nataliia Melnyk during the conference.

Within the framework of the conference, there were sectoral discussions with industry experts. According to the director of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies of the KCSA Yuriy Nazarov, last year the export of computer and information services in Kyiv amounted to 1.4 billion USD or 40% of the total sum.

"The city, which demonstrates such an economic success in the IT-sphere, must necessarily use digital technology to create a smart environment. We are actively moving in this direction. Thanks to the Kyiv Smart City Concept, Kyiv residents already enjoy the benefits of innovative solutions. This concept means an affordable e-service, high-quality urban services, a safe and comfortable environment", - he said.

Over the past few years, Kyiv has been confidently holding leadership in the number and scale of cultural events. Most of them have already become a hallmark of the capital - Book Arsenal, Ukrainian Fashion Week, Kyiv Art Week, Anne de Kyiv Fest, and others. Creative industries generate high added value. According to experts, the creation of one product is made with the involvement of digital technology, film, and television, animation, media, design, publishing, etc. The experts are convinced
that by the level of development of creative industries Kyiv is even ahead of most European cities.

As the director of the Department of Culture of Kyiv City State Administration Diana Popova noted during the industry discussion, in the context of the transformation of Kyiv into a cultural capital the subject of the development of creative industries is quite relevant.

"Culture is a huge segment of the economy and has a tremendous impact on everyone's lives. Every day we create a modern European city. Therefore, the definition of creative industries as one of the vectors of smart specialization in Kyiv will enable the development of broad activities and directly from the socio-economic development of the capital and the country as a whole", - said Diana Popova.

According to the participants of the panel discussion devoted to the development of industry in the city of Kyiv, a powerful base of scientific developments of metropolitan scientific and production institutes, introduced in industrial production and management of the city economy, can contribute to solving the urgent problems of the industry and will provide a significant impetus to the development of the city.

"The development of the Kyiv City Development Strategy on the basis of smart specialization will allow the capital to attract funds from the sectoral support of the EU and the state budget. They will be aimed at the implementation of urban infrastructure projects in order to increase the competitiveness of the capital, not only at the country level but also far beyond its borders", - said the director of the Department of Economics and Investments Nataliia Melnyk.

Participation in the event was also attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Kyiv City State Administration, the team supporting the reforms, the program "U-LEAD with Europe", Industry associations and leading experts.
