At the International Forum "Kyiv: Facing the Future" the draft of the new General Plan of the capital has been presented

The Mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko has opened the event. The Forum has started the process of familiarizing the public with the project of the main planning document of the city, which should become a platform for innovative decisions and contribute to the successful implementation of the development strategy of the city of Kyiv, Kyiv's official portal informs.

The International Forum is organized by the Kyiv Institute of the General Plan of the City of Kyiv and the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture of the Kyiv City State Administration. The event was attended by qualified experts, famous architects, urbanists, and scientists. Among them: Expert of the Council of Europe Guinka Tchavdarova, Director of the Department of Urban Development and Planning of Leipzig Stefan Heynig, Expert of the World Bank Antonio Nunez.

In addition to the presentation of the General Plan project, the forum also included panel discussions: “Formation of the Kyiv agglomeration. Compact development of Kyiv", "Transport, Streets, Roads", "Ecology. Green belt” and “Preservation of Cultural Heritage and Valuable Landscape”. During the discussion, foreign and domestic experts shared their experiences, opinions, and recommendations on the main directions of urban planning and the draft General Plan of the capital.

One of the key points of Kyiv's new General Plan, which has been developed since 2009, is that it reflects, in particular, the suggestions of the citizens of Kyiv received during public hearings.

With the help of experts of the Council of Europe, the Leipzig City Hall, the developers of the General Plan of the City of Kyiv studied the experience of European countries of spatial planning of large cities. The project takes into account the European principles of territorial planning for the rational use of existing territorial resources, compactness of the city, and conservation of energy resources, sustainable mobility.

Already in early 2020, public hearings will begin on the updated draft General Plan for the capital. Kyiv citizens will submit new proposals for the project, which will be considered and taken into account by following the procedure established by law.
