Vitaliy Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv and Chairman of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, took part in the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, which started today, 11 June, in Berlin. A part of the discussions was devoted to the role of local self-government and its strengthening for the successful recovery of Ukraine. During the conference, Vitaliy Klitschko spoke with European politicians and businessmen, representatives of international organisations and local governments of European cities. He also spoke with Svenja Schulze, Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany. The mayor of the capital announced this on his Telegram channel.

"Some of the events and discussions at the International Conference on Restoring Ukraine are about the role of local self-government and its strengthening for the successful restoration of our country. In particular, our partners emphasise the importance of further decentralisation. This is important for Ukraine's security and economic development, and for its integration into the EU. They also emphasise that foreign investments are aimed at the local level, at communities. Because it is on the ground that transformations will take place. And our partners are ready to help,’ Vitaliy Klitschko wrote.

Also at the International Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine, the Mayor of Kyiv had a separate conversation with the Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, Svenja Schulze. He thanked her for her continued support and assistance. The ministry she heads has been a partner of Kyiv and many Ukrainian communities for many years.

"In particular, since the beginning of the large-scale war, the Ministry, in partnership with Leipzig, has procured personal protective equipment (helmets, bulletproof vests) for Kyiv's utilities. It also provided the capital of Ukraine with a large number of generators of various capacities and donated various municipal equipment through GIZ. It also financed the purchase of state-of-the-art foam fire extinguishing vehicles, which are now operating in Kyiv,’ said Vitaliy Klitschko.

He stressed that the Kyiv authorities will continue to cooperate with German cities and government agencies that support and assist local governments.
