The Annual Report of Kyiv 2020 has been published - a publication about the life of the capital in figures and facts. The annual issue covers indicators in all spheres of city life, which are set out in statistical data, information of structural units of the Kyiv City State Administration and financial indicators of municipal enterprises of the city for the specified period. This was reported by the Department of Economic and Investment of the Kyiv City State Administration. Together with the municipal research institution "Research Institute of Socio-Economic Development of the city" prepared the publication.

"2020 became the year of tests for strength. As the whole world, Kyiv was forced to learn to live in a pandemic and severe quarantine restrictions. At the same time, according to most indicators of socio-economic development, the capital has strengthened its leadership at the national level", - reported the Department.

Slightly more than 7% of Ukrainian citizens lived in the capital, where the permanent population was 2.9 million people in 2020. 30,670 infants were born in the capital - 15,977 boys and 14,693 girls in the 2020 "quarantine" year. The average age of the city's residents is 40 years, and the average life expectancy of Kyiv residents is 74 years. At the same time, the percentage of females exceeds the number of male residents of the capital - 53.8% and 46.2%, respectively. The natural decrease of the city's population in 2020 was 5.4 thousand people, at the same time a positive migration balance of 0.2 thousand people was recorded.

According to some indicators, the share of Kyiv in the economy of Ukraine in 2020 was: 23.9% - gross regional product (2019); 11.8% -industrial products sold; 5% - residential buildings, putting into service; 21.5% - construction production; 19,7% – turnover of retail trade; 25,3% – exports of goods; 44% - imports of goods; 32.1% - capital investments; 36.5% - exports of services; 49.2% - imports of services and 42.3% - foreign direct investment.

Revenues to the budget of Kyiv from business entities increased by 6.8% and amounted to UAH 42.2 billion in 2020. According to the tax authorities in 2020, the number of business entities in Kyiv registered as taxpayers increased by 11.2% compared to the previous year and amounted to 947.5 thousand. The number of business entities that actually paid taxes increased by 5.5% and amounted to 550.9 thousand, which led to an increase in budget revenues of taxes and fees by 1.2 times.

In Kyiv in 2020, the total area was put into service: 285.7 thousand square meters of residential buildings and 119.7 thousand square meters - non-residential, of which 70.5 thousand square meters for public entertainment, education, hospital or institutional care buildings.

As of the end of December 2020, the volume of direct investments in the economy of Kyiv amounted to $21,575.1 million US dollars, of which equity and investment fund shares - $15,923.3 million US dollars. Thus, the volume of direct investment per capita in the capital is 6.1 times higher than the average in Ukraine (1,190 US dollars). In total, direct investments came from 78 countries, 75.3% of which were from EU countries.

Foreign partners' main areas of investment in the capital's economy were wholesale and retail trade, vehicle repair, industry, information and telecommunications technology, real estate transactions, and financial and insurance activities.

In 2020, Kyiv received 2 awards in the nomination "Cost Effectiveness" of the Financial Times: 5th place in the ranking of fDi’s Major European Cities of the Future 2020/21 and 4th place in the ranking of TOP-10 Tech cities of the future 2020/21. In the rating of Regional Doing Business - 2020, the capital took 3rd place and 2nd place in the rating of Comfort of Ukrainian cities from the "Focus" magazine.
