Kyiv residents and guests of the city have used the bike-sharing system more than 75 thousand times for the last two years. This was stated by Vitali Klitschko during an online press conference, answering questions received from the media.
“The bike-sharing system, which we presented together with the investor two years ago, is rapidly gaining popularity in Kyiv. During this time, more than 75 thousand times Kyiv residents and guests of the city have used the services of public bicycle rental. And if two years ago we started with 33 rental stations, today there are 302 of them. The number of bicycles that can be picked up at these stations has also increased significantly. There are already more than a thousand of them. And as investors have assured that in a week or two, they will bring a thousand more", - Vitali Klitschko said.
According to him, this year the "Nextbike" bike-sharing system has been rebranded: it has changed its name to BikeNow, launched a new application, and reduced the cost of a single trip.
The mayor of Kyiv also showed a short video from one of these rental points.
Vitali Klitschko noted that a few years ago the city authorities started and continue to build bicycle tracks in Kyiv. Nowadays their total length is almost 100 km. Another 17 km is the total length of public transport lanes, where, as part of the experiment, cycling is allowed. And on all the streets that are being renovated in the capital, bicycle tracks are being arranged.
"Today, at the request of the cycling community of Kyiv, the construction of a bicycle entrance from Naberezhne Highway to the Metro Bridge is underway. We plan to complete the work in mid-July. We also installed the first bicycle parking lots near social institutions, metro stations, and administrative buildings. During the summer, such parking lots will increase significantly", - Vitali Klitschko said.
